Day 289 October 16, 2009 food day 16 Marni’s Mai Tai

For a very special dinner my friends and I went out for a very belated birthday (6 months late) dinner. We went to Ichiban Japanese steakhouse in Minneapolis. The dinner was amazing, the food was awesome, the drinks were beautiful. We were there for quite a few hours, and I’d definitely give this restaurant 5 stars!
Day 272 September 29th 2009 Bikini Martini and a take on a Tropical Ale

Until today I have never made a martini. We didn’t even have all the necessary tools, so I improvised. The blue one is the Bikini Martini. Recipe is below:
Ingredients:
• 1 ½ oz gin
• ½ oz blue curacao
• ½ oz peach schnapps
• ½ lemon
• 1 orange spiral
1) Fill a shaker halfway with ice cubes.
2) Add the gin, blue curacao and peach schnapps to the shaker.
3) Squeeze the juice from the lemon into the shaker.
4) Shake the mixture vigorously for 5 to 10 seconds. Strain the drink into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with an orange spiral.
The Red on is my take on a Tropical Ale. I couldn’t find pineapple juice at the store, anywhere for some reason they were all out in the frozen and in the juice section!
Ingredients:
• 3 oz pineapple juice
• 3 oz ginger ale
• ½ oz grenadine
• 1 maraschino cherry
Recipe:
1) Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.
2) Pour the pineapple juice, ginger ale and grenadine into the glass.
3) Garnish with a maraschino cherry and stir the drink.
Without the pineapple juice it tasted like a cherry soda. I would definitely make this one again, the Bikini Martini on the other hand was way to strong. I didn’t like it very much and I don’t think my dad who tried it liked it much either.
